What is Birling Gap known for?
Birling Gap and Crowlink, near Eastbourne in East Sussex, are part of the world famous Seven Sisters chalk cliffs, one of the longest stretches of undeveloped coastline on the south coast.
Is Birling Gap safe?
It isn’t safe to sit or stand close to the edge of the cliffs, they may be unstable or undercut in places. We also advise visitors to stay away from the base of the cliffs when walking on the beach in case of cliff falls.

Because of coach parties and the many walkers that frequent the restaurant run by the National Trust at Birling Gap, it becomes very crowded. This means queues for food and toilets which can be quite long. Cliff falls also mean room for expansion is reducing.

Birling Gap beach is a mix of mostly pebbles which give way to the occasional patch of sand. As the tide goes out rocky platforms are revealed which provide an array of rock pools to explore.
Can you get down to the beach at Birling Gap?
Access to the beach is via the steps at Birling Gap at the southern end of the car park via a walkway that extends from the cliff. There are only three points of access to the beach nearby.
