Poundland bought its rival just two years ago and planned to convert 250 of its stores, but reportedly struggled with the acquistion. Now almost a quarter of the original 99p Stores have been closed for good.

Poundworld went bust in June 2018 after struggling with rising costs, and low consumer confidence. Administrators Deloitte, which had ran the chain since it went into administration, announced that its 335 shops would be gone by August.
