In Diablo 3, your follower does not leech experience. He gains a percentage of your experience as his own. There is no downside to followers in Diablo 3. The plus side is that a follower can dramatically increase your damage or suvivability if you give them some gear.

Do nemesis bracers work on followers?
Prior to patch 2.1, these bracers even increased the bearer’s Movement Speed as well. The legendary effect works even if equipped on Followers.
